What might have been

I just saw Al Gore speaking on C-Span, discussing the wiretapping scandal and the need to preserve Americans’ Constitutional rights, no matter what the dangers are.
So, where was this Al Gore in 2000? Here, he was fiery and passionate, well-spoken and articulate, insightful and bold. He made a compelling argument. He put more than three words together at a time. He quoted MLK and it didn’t sound out of place. He was intelligent and intelligible.
You know, I’ve said for the past six years that we probably wouldn’t have been much better off with Gore, but now I see that I was quite probably mistaken about that on all counts.
