Reason

This blog exists to make me write.

Sure, that seems backwards, but it’s true. See, I love writing, and I love writing about politics, religion, and all that other stuff you’re not supposed to talk about in polite company. I wrote at length about just those things when I was the Opinions Editor of my college paper, the Augustana Observer. A regime change came, and with it, the axe, as I discovered that punctuality supersedes quality (and apparently, quality is no longer a concern, but that’s neither here nor there).

Anyway, I walked away from that and decided to keep my subversive opinions confined to my good friend Jon’s blog. Meanwhile, I’ve been writing about comics and that sort of thing over on the family-friendly Fortress of Soliloquy. I haven’t contributed anything to Jon’s site in nigh on forever, despite repeated promises to the contrary.

Yet, I still burn with passion for my beliefs, and I am frequently incensed about the state of the world at large. I’ve avoided writing my opinions on real matters for too long. So, this blog exists to sit in my Blogger control panel and guilt trip me into writing something occasionally.

I need to write about the issues again, and I hope perhaps to snag some of my old readership in the process. My promise, at this point, is to update twice a week, even if it’s just something small. Maybe I’ll even post some of my old columns (in their “director’s cut” editions!) when writer’s block hits.

If anyone’s concerned, I’ll still be doing Fortress of Soliloquy as regularly as possible. Not gonna shirk on that, no sir.

Doubtin’ Tom Foss makes his triumphant return to the world of socioreligiopolitical commentary. You read it here first.
